On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States. In his inauguration speech, he declared, “The golden age of America begins right now. During every single day of the Trump administration, I will, very simply, put America first. With these actions, we will begin the complete restoration of America and the revolution of common sense”.

President Trump swiftly signed executive orders and announced policy changes from the Biden administration. These included the withdrawal from the ‘Paris Agreement’, an international framework addressing global warming, and the World Health Organization. He also ordered an increase in fossil fuel production, the abolition of diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) program and other reforms.

Furthermore, President Trump signed an executive order granting amnesty or reducing the sentence of individuals who trespassed on the U.S. Capitol in January 2021. However, this order has been met with suspicion regarding the appropriation of power.

President Trump has drawn attention with his claim that he will raise tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China. However, higher tariffs could increase the risk of further inflation and trigger a global tariff war, potentially leading to a worldwide economic recession. It appears that President Trump aims to encourage investment in the United States.

On January 15, Israel and Islamic group Hamas agreed to halt fighting in the Palestinian territory of Gaza, where more than 46,000 lives have died. Qatar mediated the ceasefire negotiations under the Biden administration, the ceasefire took effect on January 19.

In the first stage, Hamas is set to release 33 hostages. In exchange, Israel will temporarily halt its attacks on Gaza and release Palestinian prisoners. This initial stage of the ceasefire is expected to last six weeks.

Former U.S. President Joe Biden emphasized, “If negotiations take longer than six weeks, the ceasefire will continue as long as the negotiations continue”. He reiterated that the next stage will aim for a “permanent end to the war”.

The agreement is based on an initiative announced by former President Biden in May 2024. It consists of three phases, ultimately leading to a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and efforts to rebuild the region.

The Trump administration has launched a large -scale crackdown on illegal immigration. During his presidential campaign, President Trump pledged to carry out the largest forced repatriation in U.S. history. Currently, more than 11 million undocumented immigrants reside in the United States. However, some critics argue that mass deportations violate human rights and constitute racial discrimination.

In his inaugural address, President Trump stated, “National unity is now returning to America, and confidence and pride is soaring like never before”. Nevertheless, his policies may further deepen divisions and fuel conflicts within American society.

　最初の段階では、ハマスは33人の人質を解放する予定だ。代わりに、イスラエルは、ガザへの攻撃を一時的に停止し、パレスチナ人の受刑者を釈放する。停戦のこの最初の段階は、6週間続くことになっている。

　前大統領のジョー・バイデンは、「もしも交渉が6週間よりも長くなれば、停戦は交渉が続く限り継続されるだろう」と強調した。彼は、「次の段階は、戦争の恒久的な終結を企図することになる」と繰り返し強調した。
